Displaying User-Defined Contours

Displaying User-Defined Contours

I know this feature from UG NX and I-Deas - super-helpful!

There you are able to select the boundary by clicking sketch-entities to close the loop for a solid or leave it open to create a surface-feature.

Is also helpfull when you have many sketch-entities in the sketch. Automatic boundary recognition sucks in many cases at the moment - you have to place several extra-points in the sketch or break lines an then sometimes the whole sketch.

As another former I-DEAS user, I agree that this would be useful.

However, I don't think I would want it to replace the current automatic profiles.  When the automatically generated profiles work, they involve much less selecting (and therefore less clicking) than manually building the profile.  An option to use this method when needed would be great.

I meant that this feature being optional, of course. Sorry for the incomplete explanation. You are right sometimes this can be timeconsuming when clicking several sketch-entities- but especally when working with surfaces i wish to select what i want and not whole (wrong) contours. In the features the selection stops at a certain point. Next point is when having many sketches visible and f.e. you want to extrude a profile Inventor checks all the possible closed profiles automatically and this may take a long time. F.e. when importing some AutoCAD data.

With this option you need no extra points in your sketch or even break lines to bring Inventor to recognize the profile you want.
