Direct, Associative CAM Access to a Sheet Metal Flat Pattern

Direct, Associative CAM Access to a Sheet Metal Flat Pattern

I'd like to have direct access to a sheet metal part flat pattern model.

Currently, the only way to get a sheet metal flat pattern model out of Inventor for a CAM system is to export (Save Copy As) the model file as SAT, DXF or DWG.

When changes are made to the part and the flat pattern updates I have to re-export the flat pattern model file.

When this is done, the exported model file is a different file... and requires me to completely re-program the part using the CAM system.

Please provide a method to allow direct, associative access to the flat pattern model.

Thanks,

Brian

This should be high priority, especially now that Inventor HSM includes 2D Profiling strategy (laser, plasma etc.)

There are no good workarounds for this as far as I can tell. One can use an unfold feature to flatten the part temporarily, but this will break assemblies containing the part until the unfold is deleted.

We hope to start a Tech Preview around this in the very near future - you can apply for early access using https://beta.autodesk.com/key/nestingpreview
