Copy of Adaptive Part Isn't

Copy of Adaptive Part Isn't

I'd like to reuse an existing part which is adaptive in an assembly.

Neither iLogic "Design Copy", Vault "Copy Design" nor Design Assistant clears adaptivity upon copying such a part.

Regardless of which method I use to copy the part, Adaptivity is not cleared on the copy, and as such, not available for the new part.

When the newly copied part is placed in an assembly, adaptivity for that part is not available as an option from the iProperties -> Occurance tab nor the Browser Right-Click menu.

Seems to me clearing adaptivity should be part of the copy design process for all of these methods.

Same results in 2014 & 2015. Is there a workaround for this limitation?

You can manually clear the adaptivity on the copy part (Tools, Document Settings, Modeling tab - uncheck "Adaptively Used in Assembly."

Thanks,

I appreciate your input on this. And your comment is correct and helpful.

IMHO, Copy Design processes should look for and clear this setting as a copy is made.

I can't think of a single reason this state/option should be maintained (copied) along with the part... Although there very well could be.

It is a bit cumbersome and an impediment to design re-use workflow.

Best,

Brian
