Clip/hide drawing behind text/dimensions

Im sure there are more important things to fix, but this one drives me crazy. Yes, sometimes you need to put dimensions or symbols/balloons over the top of the drawing view. What would be nice is if (and i dont really want to say this...) that it behaved like autocad... .The background behind the text/symbol/balloon would be set to white or background so it would clip out the drawing behind it.
