zebra colored model

After editing my model it has taken on this zebra texture on the surface black and white stripes I have tried to asign new materials and colors nothing changes any ideas?

You have accidentally clicked "analyze surfaces", next to the color selection drop-down. Click it again and it will go away.

The only time I have seen this if two identical
surfaces are one right on top of the other.  For example two parts
constrained so they overlap each other when they are different
colours.

Next to your Style drop down list on the main toolbar you will notice there is a button pressed in Analyze Faces. Unselect this
button.
