Ye OldVersions

No. Not me, those autosaved old version
files.

Is there a way to direct storage of old versions in
one folder in one place. I have dozens of OldVersion folders. I cleared
them out the other day to save a gigabyte or so from my backups.  I cannot
ever remember using them.

Putting them in one folder would make it easy to
spring clean them.

I am considering setting oldversions to
zero.Especially since I auto backup every night and can go back several days in
needed.

Hmm. Thanks. You would think that would have been
linked to Oldversions in HELP, which is where I had looked.

I just tried the Purge procedure on a folder
in which I had already deleted all the Oldversions.

RMB

Purge was greyed out.

Purge All said it would purge 260 files. So
either IV still has a record of the now non existent files or I was about to
expunge my good files.

Knowing how fast one can lose stuff, I
declined.

I think will settle for setting Oldversions to
zero.

I've just been looking at the H/D saving I'd make if I deleted oldversions

Oldversions = 368,332,800 bytes
Total files = 5,646,290,944 bytes

Saving = 6.5%

I'm not sure that scale of saving justifies the easy recovery that
oldversions allows.

Yes I agree with that , but I have been syncronising my files over the
internet, with a 5GB limitation.

I would agree with Duncan's assessment. I haven't needed Old Versions
very often, maybe 3 or 4 times in the last two years, but they did save
me 20-30 hours of work. We normally set the project files to save 5
versions. Even at 5 we have had a couple of occasions where the old
versions had been saved over enough times that we lost the earlier good
version we were looking for. We only clear them out at each migration
to the newer software release.
