XP issue?

I just purchased and loaded INV6 on my Dell 950 Mhz desktop w/518mb of ram and XP operating system. After I launch the program and start drawing, the computer slows to a crawl. Do I need more computer power or is this an XP issue? Is there anyone else who has had issues with computer performance attrophy after launching INV6? If so, how did you overcome/solve the issue. Is it related to XP OS? Anybodys expierienced inpute is greatly appreciated, Thank you.

XP runs IV fineand your CPU speed and RAM amount is fine for small jobs. What's your video card? Do you have IV SP1 or 2 installed?

It would not be XP, afaik XP is just as good as Win
2000 for IV.

How big are your files? If they are not over 100
megs you should be fine with 512 megs RAM. Are you noticing framerate loss? If
so a better 3D videocard such as the Geforce 4 Ti4200 or Quadro 750 XGL would
assist you. If your processor is a Celeron, that would lag you out
too.

All in all, if I had to "guess" what the problem
was, I would guess your videocard, it is the most common weak spot cause people
usually get "value" cards for office machines. What kind is
it?

BTW to find out, go to start -> control panel
-> system -> device manager -> display

Hello MechMan,
We have a Matrox Graphics Millennium G400 and G200 driving 3 17" flat screens. Also it is IV sp1.

OOOoooooooo........ Not good.

Matrox is about as unacceptable a CAD card as they come. I predicct that all of your problems will go away by replacing the Matrox card with something with a nVidia chipset such as a GeForce or Quadro.

Ditch the Matrox.  They are garbage cards for
Inventor (and any other 3D CAD)  trust me I fought with them for R! &
R2 before I finally saw the light.

Are you running files over a network????
I just purchased a dual 2.4g xeon w/ 1 gig of ram and an xgl900 card. We have windows 2000 server on the server and I am running XP pro locally. It takes 40 forevers to access the network and slows the whole computer down...

I had the same problems. If you have not already done it, upgradt to XP service pack 1. That seems to solve most of the problems. I am still having file locking issues, but the administrator and I think we have tracked it down to a slightly faulty network card rather than something in the software. Though it does only happen in Inventor... 🙂
