Wrapping text to surface

I'm attempting to use the "emboss" feature and wrapping the text to the surface of the part. Attached is the example of the part I am working with. Also attached is the error message I receive after attempting the process. Is there another way to wrap the text about the surface of a "coiled" face?

Offset the face as a surface body.

Extrude From-To (or Between or whatever they call it now).

Attach your file here if you can't figure it out.

Worked perfectly. There's always more then one way to skin a cat. 🙂

Thanks for the help!

Hi mattchambers06,

Could you please explain in more detail just what you did to overcome your problem? It looks like it might resolve an issue I have been struggling to resolve but between you and JDMather's comments I have not been able to establish what either of you meant.

Many thanks,

Dear JDMather,

Thank you. I have managed to succeed in part through advice you have given others on various forums allowing me to wrap a text emboss around a conical surface by way of unwrapping the surface applying the text emboss and then re-folding. So thank you, that is a big leap forward for me.

In the attached file, is it possible to unfold in more than one direction so that I could in fact generate a spherical surface and not just a conical one? If so this would seem to overcome the inability to emboss or engrave to a spherical surface, which is where I really need to be.

For whilst the conical surface in the file will enable me to get a fudged solution it is not a perfect one to send to the milling shop. In an ideal world every single movement of the milling cutter would be perpendicular to the surface of the sphere and not just in the x-y axis.

I await your kind advice.

Thank you.
