Working local without Vault

Hello, I did just encounter a problem.

I've just upgraded Inventor 2011 - > Inventor 2013. However, our company has not yet implemented Vault 2013, so I'm kind of a test subject in this upgrade. I have to work locally then, so I downloaded all my files from Vault before I Installed 2013. But when I open any .ipt, .iam or .idw, I can not save the changes I've made. I can only save a copy because the file is "read only". I guess it's because I did not check it out from Vault.

But I don't want to save a copy since I have drawings connected to the assemblys. And I really don't want to redo the drawings since I've spent ~60 hours per drawing.

Is there any way I can work offline with my files offline without being forced to save a copy?
