woodwork - auto rebating & grooving

Hi

im not sure if it is possible but, could something be made that speeds up rebates & grooves that need to be drawn in currently with sketches? i have attached 3 images.

BEFORE REBATE SKETCH

This is a back panel that has a divider into it. the divider is 5mm into the back panel. currently no rebate

REBATE

This is the back panel after the rebate has been drawin in and extruded

AFTER REBATE SKETCH

This is the divider panel into the newly created rebate on the back panel.

Maybe by manipulating iFeatures, do you think that something could be created that allows you simply but rectangle extruded panels together and then by touching the internal lines, a rebate is created (adding 5mm to one part and taking 5mm from the other)

it would save hours and hours....

Advice please and i will delve in. just curious to see whether it is possible and what the starting points would be?

thanks

Nigel

Hi nmjshaw150,

Assuming that you have Inventor 2010 or later, you can create multiple bodies in the same part file to do this, and then write out each body as a separate part file later.

For your example you would:

  1. Create the back panel
  2. Then create the divider as a separate solid body
  3. Then use the Combine tool to cut one from the other.

Attached is an example file for you to look at.

And here are some links showing the workflow:

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

You could also use the 'Copy' > Face option within the assembly envoironment, with a thicken cut to create an adaptive rebate.

The plastic part 'Lip' tool can be used for creating rebates.

let us know how you get on!
