Windows 8.1 Problems

Hello all,

Am I the only one out there that is experiencing issues with Inventor Pro 2014 and Windows 8.1?

Specifically that at random times when you start a new document, or go to load a document, of any of the major file types (IAM, IPT, IDW) that inventor gets to the point where on the bottom of the screen it says 'Loading Presentation...' and then just never responds again??? I delt with it for a while, but it is really starting to grate on me now... I am typically now in the habbit of hitting save before I start or open any other document but I didnt today and lost a lot of work on a large assembly.

Its quite frusterating.

Anyone else experiencing this same issue? I would love to hear from you. Or maybe you have fixed this issue? Even better!

Thanks

-Randy

Graeme,

I expect that your Dell has two video cards.

Which one to you have it configured to work with Inventor?

If you switch, does it make a difference?

Thank you.

It has a intel hd graphics 4000

and a Nvidia quadro KM4000M

I presume it uses the Nvidia one?

Im no hardware expert

It will use the Intel HD onboard by default (power saving feature), you will need to go to the Nvidia Control Panel and tell Nvidia to use it's card for Inventor. Just RMB on the screen to allow access to the Nvidia Control Panel.

From the Nvidia Control Panel . Help, what driver version does it show. Dell is notorious for shipping units with extremely old/first release drivers.

I would do a complete un-install of Inventor, then run something like cCleaner.com and use it's Registry clean tool to clean up the Windows Registry. Do a system reboot, run the cCleaner again to clean up the Windows Registry, reboot, install Inventor. Make sure you are logged in as Administrator and have the UAC slider set to it's lowest position and install Inventor along with all Service Packs and Hotfixes.

Ok

Thats a job for the weekend when I have no work, so will give it a try then

This install of 2014 was carried out after windows was upgraded to 8.1 as I was using 2013 which obviously didnt work when I went to 8.1, even though the compatibility checker didnt see this

Will let you know how I get on

Thanks

I flattened the laptop and took it back to windows 8 and everything is good again

Im avoiding 8.1 as that seemed to be the issue
