Windows 8.1 Problems

Hello all,

Am I the only one out there that is experiencing issues with Inventor Pro 2014 and Windows 8.1?

Specifically that at random times when you start a new document, or go to load a document, of any of the major file types (IAM, IPT, IDW) that inventor gets to the point where on the bottom of the screen it says 'Loading Presentation...' and then just never responds again??? I delt with it for a while, but it is really starting to grate on me now... I am typically now in the habbit of hitting save before I start or open any other document but I didnt today and lost a lot of work on a large assembly.

Its quite frusterating.

Anyone else experiencing this same issue? I would love to hear from you. Or maybe you have fixed this issue? Even better!

Thanks

-Randy

thats happening on windows 7, 8 and 8.1, when in an assembly try to open any drawing, freezes about 50% of the time for us on 4 different machines, all up to date SP's and drivers

Hi! This is a new behavior to me. Could you try the following two workflows and see if it behaves differently?

1) Start Inventor -> Tools -> Application Options -> Hardware -> change it to Compatibility mode.

2) Go to Tools -> Add-In -> select all Add-Ins -> uncheck the two boxes on the lower right.

Does it help? If not, can you start a new iam, ipt, or idw (dwg) file?

Thanks!

Hello,

Thank you for the response. I had raised this issue previously with Chris Mitchell of Autodesk. He however was not running Win8.1 and thot it may be directly related that and was unable to replicate my issue. That being said, he did have me try the add in disabling and that did not help. I will change the compatibility mode tho and run like that for a bit.

tks!

Hi! I am sorry to hear that it does not work. Could you try one more thing for me and see if it works?

Go to File Explorer -> find C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\2014. Rename the folder to something else.

Restart Inventor and perform the task.

Does it still hang?

If no, there is something wrong with the way Inventor interacts with the Apperance Library. If it still hangs, please try the following workflow.

Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx and download Process Monitor.
Run Process Monitor and set Process Filter to Inventor.exe.

Start up Inventor. You should see process log in Process Monitor.

Perform the task to hang Inventor. Take a snapshot of process log when Inventor hangs.

Post the snapshot here or send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

It will help me understand what exactly Inventor is doing during the hang on your machine.

Many thanks!

Hi,

I tried the first way. Still hung. Download the process gadget and got it to hang. I emailed you the screen shot. Not sure if it is exactly what you were looking for tho, since I have never used this program before.

Tks

I'm not having any problems (Windows 7 though..because I know better than to run a brand new operating system with ANY piece of software)

Possibly a bad Profile, try logging in to Windows with a different User, preferable one with Admin Privileges and see if it solves your problem.

Randy,

Can you please provide use with an Inventor Diagnostics Report.

I have attached a PDF to assist you in creating the TXT file that we will need.

Thank you.

Morning

I am getting the same issue everyday.

can be happily working in an assembly but as soon as I open a drawing file it hangs with 'Loading Presentation' in the bottom left hand corner.

Is there anything I can do when it hangs like this, except end process?

Is this issue exclusively on Windows 8.1? ie if I rebuild my laptop with Windows 8 will it resolve the issue?

Cheers

Graeme

Did this make any sense

Ive upgraded to latest inventor service pack....

Still haveng problems...not inoy does inventor go not responding when i open a drawing mid session, but also when i try to customise toolbars.

Also should mention that when I upgraded to windows 8.1 the OS did a compatability test to see what software would be affected....no Autodesk programs showed up....

Cheers
