Your Loft is self-intersecting - it should have given you an error.

see attached solutions

JD is right. The problem here is the self-intersecting loft should fail in the first place. The faces are not trimmed properly when it happens. I am forwarding it to development team for further investigation.

Thanks!

Thank you....that is very clever and far better then my attempt. How can i modify the shape slightly as i am new to Inventor this is beyond me at the moment but would like to learn more.

JD are you able to coach me on how to modify the shape slightly to get the shape in the picture. If you offer advice i am very willing to attempt this and you could correct where i go wrong

Bet regards

Paul

I suspect you want part of your path to be helical, correct?

Might be a while as I'm busy this week.

If I (or someone) don't get back to you within a week - bump this thread back to the top with a reminder.

Don't sit around a week waiting - look into creating the path yourself.

Here is a general tutorial

http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/content/DSG322/Inventor%20Tutorials/Inventor%2011%20Tutorial%207.pdf

with difference that I am probably going to Coil a line as a surface body to get the helical portion.

Thank you JD for the PDF file...lots for me to learn

I have had a look and honestly do not know how to start this part the way you will..."difference that I am probably going to Coil a line as a surface body to get the helical portion"

Can you give me a starting point as i want to learn these types of shapes. If i can get the technique correct from the start will help with future modelling

I am very keen to learn but at the moment need help to start with the coil...you also mentioned surface body

Anyway i look forward to learning how to produce this shape

Thanks

Paul

Maybe something like this is what you are after (see attached).

Taking a look at it again - I think I would do differently so that the "front" face is planar.

I would Loft or Revolve depending on what you mean by "bend".

I doubt I would use Bend Part.

How would you use Revolve feature

Would you add a shape to the end and then the Loft so it bends downwards

Thanks Paul

I don't know the design intent - so it is impossible question to answer.

If you could show a picture of a similar real world part or hand sketch top, front and right side views it might be easier to answer question.

BTW - compared to a lot of the files I see here - you are doing a great job in getting the modeling techniques correct.

Hi

I attempted to get the next section on the part.....I used a Loft (loft 9 & 10).....The issue i have is how to make the Loft blend into the shape...please see attached pictures

Is there a better way to produce a smoother Loft section?

Once i can get this section correct i will attempt to add the increase in diameter section to the Loft?

Thank you

Paul
