Why? Why? Why? Why?...

...Is R6 so &*^%&^$ SLOW?!!!

WHY??????????

P4 1.6 GHz
1 GB PC 800 RDRAM
PNY XGL 750

5.3 ran a heck of a lot faster than R6 IN EVERY FACET OF THE SOFTWARE!!!!!

Management was complaining how much slower we are on Inventor than we used to be on SolidWorks, NOW I HAVE TO TELL THEM INVENTOR IS EVEN SLOWER! GREAT!!!!

Try turning off the content library in the Addins dialog and see if that
helps.

the moment. If you can watch the memory usage by process, you'll see it
continue to creep up until it bogs your machine down. I'm really hoping they
fix this in the patch. Just out of curiosity, why did you switch from Solid
Works? The reason I ask is that next week, I'm going to be evaluating SW
because Inventor is so bad my boss wants to switch.

See below about Norton Software, are you running
any?  If so. go through the threads may help speed things up.

Make sure you're not using Norton Antivirus.
I thought the same thing, realized it's so slow due to problems with the CDilla
Licensing that Autodesk products use and the Norton (Symantec) line of
products.  If so, disable the "Auto-Protect" feature and you'll notice it
speed up tenfold.

We use Inoculate for virus protection. However, I'll try exiting it before running IV for the next few days.

I don't approve of it but that seems to be the
trend.

So
then, are we to wait for the SP1 after every release? It's probably not a bad
idea, but I'm noy sure it's what we are paying for.

"with the CDilla Licensing that Autodesk products
"

FYI: I believe only beta, educational and non-US
versions use CDILLA... (oh and R1 and R2 did too<g>)

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm
wrong...

Catch 22. The new release comes out, and nobody trusts it, so nobody loads
it up, so nobody finds out what's broken, so what do they put in the service
pack? The industry upgrades in waves like stop-and-go traffic during rush
hour on the freeway, and on the final service pack, the software actually
becomes fairly stable, three months before the next release.

FORGETTING EVERYTHING OTHER PROBLEM I WOULD SWAP

OK so c-dilla is a touchy subject for us poor souls
branded as software pirates and criminals (even though we pay $15,000 for INV).

Yeah you guys that had it for a start, just think
how we feel having had it all the time and still have to deal with the piece of
(edited). It just makes me so angry at AutoDesk. I bought a brand new machine for
INV6 and since I am waiting for SP1 before installing (Thanks to all you guys
for beta testing for me.... really!) I thought I would install INV5.3 on it. So
I tried the licensing transfer-junky type thingy and somewhere lost the license
as it did not work. Then I had to wait 3 (that's right 3!!) days to get a code
from Autodesk as they were debating if they should give me a code cos my 5.3
license had been upgraded to6 under the VIP sub. I could not work for 3 days and
they just don't (edited)
Now I have 5.3 on my new machine and am thinking I
should do a clean install when I get 6sp1 cos I don't yet have a lot on this
machine and it would be easy, but then I have to get new codes etc etc etc. If I
install 6 then have to remove it for any reason I need codes etc etc
etc.
You think R6 is a nightmare try throwing C-Dilla
into the equation....

Enough Ranting Autodesk will still continue to
treat a 15k customer like a criminal no matter what I say...

Question: Is the Norton Antivirus issue with the 2003 version only? I have 2002 and R6 seems soooooo sloooooowwww!

Your'e darn right non-us versions use C-Dilla.
That silly, obnoxious licence manager (edited)
It is a constant pain (edited). Tell me, exactly what did you US-customers do to get rid of this foul beast?
If it was constant whining and yelling at the newsgroup, I'm sure non-us customers can do that as well.

Sorry guys,

but I don´t know what´s going on here. I have no issues at all with IV6 with or without Norton Antivirus. IV6 is running smooth and fast even with a massive load of parts in an assembly. And my PC is not what you would call a highend machine. AMD 1800+ with Quadro 4 750 on WinXP Pro. I totally disagree with being Inventor 6 slow or not doing what I want it to do.

If you had no problems with C-dilla, regardless of norton, consider yourself a very lucky individual.

Having to reauthorize IV, waiting some days to get the authorization-code via mail, all due to IV crashing, and taking Windows down with a blue-screen in enerving.
And of cource this usually happens when your in a hurry with your project.

If C-dilla is considered customer-friendly, and to have no problems, I hope they start putting it back into the US-licenses as well.
That should get some massive, nasty responses here.

Jorgen
