In your assembly file under the "manage" tab is a "Bill of Materials" icon.
Click that icon, go to parts only tab and RMB the "Parts Only" icon and click enable, qty will be one of the columns
Bottom right corner of your screen shows "total occurances in active document"

My screen does not show anything like that, is there a setting to enable it?
I see the number now but all it is is the total number of parts in my assy, an interesting number but very limited use, for me anyway.
I need the total number of each part for financial and planning purposes
I only have the total of the uniqe parts, but dotn have the total i am on inventor 2015
I do have this in the corner the first number seems to be the one, not sure whats the second one, but it doesnt correspond with uniqe part occurrence

I don't question why the OP needs the information.. Only provided the answer to where it is.. 🙂
And yes I agree the total number of parts in an assembly is virtually useless.
The BOM has all the needed information for you.

What do you mean "don't have the total".. Between the number in the bottom corner and the bill of materials (structured or parts only tab) you should have every number you would need.
The number on the bottom right is open documents in memory.. (including ALL open Inventor files and not just the current active window)

Total of subassemblies would also be included in the number at bottom right of screen.
Look at it as a file number count, assy's being a separate file of other parts.
As agreed it is a number but of very limited usage
Export your BOM and get Excel to do the count for you
I dont have total count off all the parts in the assbly in the Bill of Material quantity of each part used separetly but not the total, i enabled and chekced all tabs. only at the right bottom corner of the main window as you said.
