Where do you save your released files?

I am tring to find where most users/companies save their files when fully released. We copy them to a secure network drive that is only available to users thru the intranet (not directly within IV). They must be downloaded and saved to a local folder and then opened. When we get a change order we make the change and then send the file to configuation for release, they place it in the secure network drive. This is a problem with assy's and linked files. We have tried zipping up all files but that is not working well.
What method do others do? And do you release both the IAM and IDW etc or just the IDW file?
File management software has been talked about...year after year...still not here. Thanks for any ideas. Fred

Fred,

You may want to consider using pack and go with in
combination with relative paths in your project file.  This will "package"
all related files up and put them where you require.  With a project file
that uses relative paths, a project can be moved around from drive to drive
and the assembly will not have any issues resolving, as long as the
project file is used correctly.  You may also consider looking into using
the Autodesk Vault included with Autodesk Inventor Series 8 to manage your
Autodesk Inventor files.

Hope this helps,

Jeremy

Thanks
After I use pack and go I would still have to zip up all files to upload to secure drive otherwise when a user wants to open an assy or any file with linked files, they would have to to download each required file and place in a folder with the project file. What happens with common files in a library folder, do they get saved with pack and go? Fred

It depends on the options you set within the Pack
and Go dialog.  If you have "Skip Libraries" checked on, then the parts
will not go, but if you leave it checked off, then the library parts go.
When you get into the pack and go dialog, press the help button in the lower
left corner...it does a pretty good job of explaining what exactly
happens.
