When inserting/importing DWG files into Inventor nothing shows up.

Hi Everyone,

I am using Inventor Pro 2014 on Windows 8.1 and when I insert or import a DWG file from AutoCAD into Inventor to extrude it into a solid, nothing shows up. Apparently a wizard is supposed to pop up but when I try it nothing at all happens. I have tried reinstalling it but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else had this issue? I think importing a DWG into a 2D sketch is a fairly basic thing to do but I'm baffled that it isn't working. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have SP1 already installed.

Thanks,

Myles

Have you done this in previous releases?

Are you familiar with the procedure?

(are you selection Options and setting to Import?)

Thanks for the response. Yes when I choose "Open" and pick "Import" from the options button nothing appears. The same is true when I make a 2D sketch and choose "ACAD" from the insert box. Unless there's something key that I'm mising I really don't know why there isn't even an error prompt if something really isn't working.

Do you have drawing trueview installed and does it run?

I am in exactly the same situation (Inventor 2014 SP1, x64, Windows 8.1), and I have exactly the same problem. Just absolutely nothing happens.

Has anyone found a solution??

I do have TruView 2014 installed, and it does work. I can view all of the AutoCAD files in question perfectly using TruView.

The problem exists for both .dwg and .dxf files. I try a simple file with just a 2D square, still nothing happens.

I cannot attach the DWG I actually intend to use, but any DWG/DXF exhibits the problem. I have attached a simple such DWG (containg just a circle and a square) that exhibits the problem.

Furthermore, I have tried opening the DWG/DXF in Inventor (successfully), then copying the objects (select, right-click, copy) and pasting (activate sketch, right-click, paste) them into an IPT sketch. Again, nothing happens.

Thanks.

*Exactly* the same problem here... Inventor LT 2014 X64 Trial & SP1 on Win 8.1 - and so, alas, my trial period expired before I was able to verify DWG import which is very important for our intended application.

Alas, no - so I deinstalled the Inventor trial and bought Rhino instead.

If the above suggestion does not work, you may consider uninstalling and reinstalling DWG TrueView 2014 on your system.

  1. Browse to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
  2. Right click on DWG TrueView 2014
  3. Select Uninstall/Change
  4. Follow prompts to Uninstall or Remove the progrram
  5. Download and Run Installer for DWG TrueView

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks,

Can you confirm that the operating system you are currently using is Windows 8.1?

Have you tested the solution posted by Sami in the other discussion (steps below)

1. Press [Windows] key to open the Windows' start page

2. Type "cmd" to find "Command Prompt" > right mouse click on it  > select "Run as administrator"

3. On "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type (no quotes)  "cd c:\program files\autodesk\Inventor 2014\bin"

4. Type (no quotes)  "inventor.exe /install"

5. Press Enter

6. Wait for 1 min (inventor will be executed background then exit silently)

A couple of other suggestions to try:

Lower User Account Control Settings to the "Never Notify" setting

1. Browse to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts

2. Select "Change User Account Control Settings"

3. Lower the slider bar to the "Never Notify" position (all the way to the bottom)

4. OK

5. Restart Computer and retest

Run Inventor as Administrator:

1. Right Mouse Click on the launch icon for Autodesk Inventor 2014

2. Select the Run As Administrator

3. Retest

Test disabling anti-virus software temporarily to see if there is a conflict between Inventor 2014 and your anti-virus software. You will need to consult with the anti-virus software company for details on how to accomplish this.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks,
