What's wrong with Inventor Library Parts?

Over the last few months, I've seen several posts discouraging the use of IV's standard library parts.
It would be really convenient to use them, but I don't
need any new reliability problems. Can anybody tell me
specifically what's wrong with standard library?

The normalizing Macro is very helpful.

Thank You.

The
readme.txt shows this utility would be extremely useful. I'll have to try in
on my work computer on monday, because I cannot get it to go. i uninstalled
it, shut down, restarted, reinstalled, same runtime error. I checked to make
sure I only hade one Inventor process running.

I wish to use the Inventor library parts for several reasons:

1.) It is supported by Autodesk.

2.) It is integrated into the software.

3.) Hardware is quickly replaced by different sizes without losing constraints.

4.) When new designers start using Inventor, they can quickly come up to speed on a feature which is simple to use, before they have to understand i-parts.

5.) If users ignore this feature, Autodesk may not put the effort into improving it to something on par with toolbox fom Solidworks, or the old days of MDT.

I use custom i-parts frequently, and i-parts from Mr. Bliss's web site. They are a great feature, but I prefer the IV content library for common hardware.

I don't want an excel spreadsheet attached to every washer and nut in my browser, it may be confusing to unsophisticated users.

1.  So are iParts..?

2.  So are iParts and people are working on
making it even easier to access

3.  Same thing applies to iParts

4.  I don't see iParts as difficult to use for
an end user.  Certainly the creator and/or CAD manager must have some
knowledge to set them up but a end user simply clicks and selects sizes.
Pretty much the same difficulty level as the content library.

5.  Or Autodesk will see that the current
incarnation is to adequate and will strive to make it better?

If they work for you, more power to you.  I'm
not going to tell you what to use.  I am however going to suggest what I
think to be a much more powerful and customizable tool to new
users.

Curious as to why you would think Autodesk
doesn't support iParts. Do you think of them as ... like a third-party add-in or
something maybe?

I guess I should state my meaning more clearly:

The contents of the Inventor supplied library is provided and supported by Autodesk, meaning every user of Inventor has it on their harddisk if they choose to install it when starting.

When I first started using Inventor, I didn't know about Charles' site. I was initially more concerned about how to make assemblies work than to cruise the internet looking for hardware libraries.

I understand Autodesk supports and encourages the use of i-parts, it makes IV more powerful and customizable than it would be in their absence.

I'm with you on this, Anthony.

What I read in your statement is, that (hopefully)
the IV library is just the beginning of what we will see in the
future:

- complete fastener sets, including
holes&threads&constraints

- all fasteners hide/show/group in a browser folder
in one shot

- and lots more come into my fantasy, beyond that
what MDT already can do with fasteners

No! ... can't have that! <G> ... Actually,
an excellently designed, accurate, easily updateable, smart content
library that had namable parts would be fine ... we just don't have one yet.
Maybe after they get the drawing module slicked out.

I agree with what you are saying and said so in my
last post...

It's just too bad some of the parts are drawn
incorrectly <g>

yep. how about being able to "pattern" fasteners to a all centers in a hole feature containing multiple holes, that aren't part of a feature pattern?

But at least they are drawn incorrectly on everybody's machine 😉
