Weld question

Hi,

 

So I got some welding stuff as practice for the first time.

I was able to fiddle with the groove function somehow, however the fillet function I am not so sure of.

I followed the diagram and gave the fillet a 6.35 but it appears to be much bigger than it should.

Any ideas on where I went wrong would be helpful.

 

Since it's an assembly I will post up just a screen shot of my work.

If need be I can upload all the necessary files too.

I have an additional question to my weld question.

 

As you can see on my first screen shot the weld color is gray.

However on a different assembly I get this darker colored weld.

What is different? How can I change it?

Problem 1 - attach your assembly here and end all doubt.

Problem 2 - what material are you using for your weld bead (and parts)?

I would change the Properties color of machined faces.

Looks like someone used a different "Material" for the Weld when they created the Weldment. If you start a IAM and then convert it to a Weldment, you are given the choice of which material you wish to use for the weld. If you start a Weldment from the Create New Weldment, the default is for an Aluminum filler material. Most likely this is what happened, as JD posted, you will need to change the Material for your weld.

Here is the assembly file and first half of the part files.

 

I guess you can only upload 3 at a time.

Yes you are absolutely correct.

That was exactly what happened.

One was created as weldment and the other was converted.

During the conversion process while blindedly following one of the tutorials I have changed the properties of the weld. Smiley Tongue

I have made everything again in both ways and have confirmed this.

Also I finally was able to change the material by going into the properties of the weld and under the physical tab.

You may want to either edit the existing Weldment Template and change the material to a common material you use or create a number of Weldment Templates for the types of filler material that you commonly use.

Answer to first question :-

 

Set HIGHT and WIDTH to 6.32 in BOTH boxes.

I'm sorry I just started using the weld function couple days ago and still very new to it.

 

By height and width; both boxes, do you mean these(see attach.) two boxes?

Because I have tried putting in the 6.35 value to both boxes but still made my welds way too big.

*I have also tried putting in 6.35 values in the weld calculator's height and length boxes(attach2) but got the same results.*

 

On a side note, I did try putting in the value 6.35/2 which made it look much more plausible but this method didn't feel right.

Looks like a mistake on the drawing to me - I suspect the dimension was manually entered.

Not sure where that number came from anyhow, but 3.65 looks more like the print visual.

Yes put 6.35 in both this then give perfect 45 degree fillet weld

Where did you get/down load this exercise, I cant open the files as
there in 2015 I'm using 2014. or can you post a PDF of the IDW files by :-
