View Margins with Reference Data - Not in Help

I have an assembly of 2 parts - with an addition of those two parts as
Reference shown in a different state.

Creating a drawing view of only the 2 reference parts and the view
disappears when it becomes precise. If I make visible one non-reference
part, the view appears. I thought that "Margin" in the View Edit/options
dialog would aid in controlling this so I looked in Help.

Surprise, I couldn't find a single reference to the "Margin" setting in the
View dialog in Help!

I'm going to do this another way - create a dummy assembly with the
reference parts not referenced and add a view of that assembly to my
drawing.

Margin? no idea, my view is not disappearing but you may want to outline
steps so we can see if its same.

The Reference Margin is the (absolute sheet size-like text heights) distance
the view borders can be manually "expanded" to include more of a reference
part if needed.

When the view borders for a view are calculated and displayed, they only
take into consideration the Non Reference parts in the model. If a reference
part is tagged to the "edge" of an assembly, the view placed could very well
"crop" off the reference part. (this actually may be desireable)

If more of this reference part (tagged to an "edge") needs to be shown, the
Reference Margin is increased as needed.

Why Ron had his views disappear seems to be a mystery.... his "normal" parts
should have been shown front and center regardless of the Refence Margin
(cannot be a negative number)

Cheers for that Quinn, where do you find all this stuff? So what sort of
values would you use in Margin? Trial and error I suppose.

Thanks Quinn - that's what I remember but it's a mystery to me why it's no
longer in the Help File. You didn't find this anywhere did you?

My "normal" parts were "not visible" by choice - by selecting the parts and
changing their visibility. I only wanted the Reference parts visible in
this one view.

Ron,

I couldn't find it either. No big loss IMO; the description in the 5.3 help
files didn't make a bit of sense to me anyhow.

I'm wondering how IV would begin to calculate a drawing view where there are
no real parts to calculate a view border?
Does it "remember" the envelope size of the assembly and drop a view
centered on 0,0 or what?
What was the "location" of your ref parts?

As you know, as you add/delete parts out of views they reposition themselves
"center" recalculating the view borders along the way.

Feels like a limitation rather than a bug.
