Video Card Choice

We are ordering a couple new of new systems and only have two choices on the video card. We can either pick an ATI 9800 pro or a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200. Please give me some input on these two cards and what you would choose.

Thanks

Rob

Tell them to keep them and buy at least a Quadro4
380 XGL (about $200).  I have a system with a GeForce FX5600 that does OK
although some text displays improperly in .idw's (prints out OK).

The 9800 pro is by far a superior
card.

The FX5200 has got horrible reviews and is quite
under powered.

Niether of them would be recommended for
Inventor.

It like chossing the worst of two evils, possbile
bad compatibilty with inventor (9800 Pro) or slow and underpowered (FX
5200).

After typing this I still cant decide, flip a
coin, hope your lucky.

What about the quadro FX 1000?

"What about the
quadro FX 1000?"

I agree, there are so many very capable GFX cards
on the market, it would be a pity to choose one of these

But the man said.

"and only have two choices on the video card"

aaagghhhhhh..... Forget that last post, wasnt
paying attention to who posted it.

Yes the quadro would be a better choise for
Inventor.  Can you get it in the systems you are buying?

Hi,

I know you've already dissed both of these graphics cards - but I too only
have the option of these two cards.

I'm just starting to learn how to use Inventor but would these be ok as a
starting point untill i get up to full speed?

Cheers

I wouldnt have dared take the ATI.

The GeForce cards has beem mostly ok for Inventor.
And soon, you can probably turn it into a Quadro.
Rivatuner will probably (mark: PROBABLY) be able to do this hack soon.

On the other hand, if you go for the ATI, make sure to hack this into a pro
card with ruvatuner as well.
I believe RivaTuner supports that card now.
(but I never tried it, since I wont use any ATI cards).

Make sure you read http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/ and its forum before
attempting to do anything.

Hi Rob,

There is a link on the Inventor 7 menu that gives
the approvals for various video card manufacturers.  In an earlier post by
someone else this was requested.  Unfortunately the link was not
provided.  Only the information on where to find it on the Inventor
menu.  I'm not sure if there may be a reason why this cannot be posted, and
therefore whether a reply with the link might have been removed, but if you have
the link could you please post it.  Many of your questions about which
video card to use are answered in this web page.  The comments you received
to your post are reinforced by this approved video card webpage link.  I'm
doing research, also, on what to include in new systems.

I have my own licensed copy of Inventor and
the company I'm working for is considering it.  They have a fast wideband
connection, so I prefer to do this search at the company.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Wally

Hi Rob,

I should have spent a bit more time looking.
I did find the link as follows:

Hope this helps.
