i have read through an old post... link which unfortunatly wasn't fully answered and i have a similar question. I would like to add a Leader Text to lable a part- referencing the Part Number or whatever, move the text close to the edge of the part, to remove the leader/arrow and make the txt rotate 90deg to be vertical. I have messed with style settings for a new Vertical Txt style, and Vert Dim style -(pointed to the Vert Txt style and adjusted Notes and Leaders tab)
i don't understand why in the Format Text window the "rotation" box is always grayed out. can you unlock it?
i think the solution that the previous post was looking for would work for myself as well. does anyone know any style combination that could solve this?
thanks!!

Bear,
I still haven't found an answer to this puzzle.
The text orientation and style boxes are always grayed-out in my leader dialogue.
Have you found a solution to this yet?
I started looking since 2010, and going on 5 years later, no response from Adsk.
Imagine??
I don't think it can be done yet. What I like to do is create a sketch in the view and place normal text and rotate it. This will allow you do "attach" the text to your view so that it will travel with it (hell, you can even project an edge and constrain the text to it so there's no chance of it wondering off). It takes two key strokes to do it: Highlight view, S, T and presto, you're placing text.
I'd like it if we could do it the way you describe, but I've found this to be a satisfying alternative for the time being.
W,
Thanx for the tip.
I'll try it tomorrow.
If it retains the property of the part it's touching, "I'm golden".
I'll let you know how it goes ...
W,
Thanx for saving me the time and trouble.
Looks like I'm stuck using this POS the way I've always used it.
Here's my work-around for this software DEFECT, based on D Jeffries help back in 2010:
Go to leader properties in Dimension Styles.
At bottom right of dialogue box change the text to align w/the leader line.
Change leader line properties to Dot & .001 & no arrow.
Then attach the leader arrow to an entity edge that's perpendicular to the parallel edge you want the text near.
Drag the leader arrow off the edge it's connected to so it makes an extension line (invisible).
Then align the text to the leader line and also parallel to the edge it's near.
Works good enough to get the job done.
If you want to see a screen shot, ask and I'll do it tomorrow.
Time to get ready for sleep.
One question I have...
When you edit the Dimension Styles, do all the leaders with text rotate 90°?
Editing a particular dimension style will change all dimensions using that style. Dimensions using other styles will not be affected.
