VC++ Runtime Error in R11

I have a user running Inventor 11 who gets Runtime Errors, seemingly 100% at random. Inventor is killed from the error so he loses any work not saved. We have no non-standard addins or special mojo going on here - it's just straight Inventor 11 as shipped.

Attached is a screenshot of the exact error.

Machine is a Dell Precision workstation running XPSP2 with all updates applied. Graphics are nVidia running approved/tested drivers.

Any ideas? I don't even know where to start for troubleshooting. We've tried disabling the on-access antivirus scanner (Sophos), which didn't help. That's about it so far.

Hello,

First I am sorry that you are having problems with Inventor R11. From your
description I guess we can discout the graphics drivers. Just a final check
however from the Application Options -> Hardware are you using Driect3D or
OpenGL?

If you are using OpenGL set it to Direct3D

Later if the problems still persist I would try radio button "Override
recommended Settings - Use Direct3D Software Renderer"

When you get these crashes are you in any particular environment? Do it only
happen on Part file but not in IDW files for example. Or does the crash
happen at random? How much memory does your machine have? I will ask my
colleagues it they have any recommendations.

I look forward to hearing from you

Thx

Hello again,

I just spoke to some of our support people and they asked if you got the CER
(Customer Error Report) dialog and if so please fill in the appropriate
information and send it to us so we can take a look at what is happening in
your case.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thx

From what the user can tell, no specific environment or part file triggers it.

He has already set graphics to Direct3D.

It does not give a submit report dialog after the error, it just completely shuts it straight down, no questions asked.

The machine has 2GB of RAM.

However, I just discovered that the video is NOT nVidia as I originally believed (the rest of our workstations ARE nV workstation-class cards). It is running an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, which I'm guessing isn't a certified card for Inventor... I will check/update video drivers tonight and see if it continues to misbehave tomorrow.

it has happened twice this morning, and i noticed that each of these times i was switching project folders.

And also again whn i double clicked Standard.iam.
I opened Inventor right back up and double clicked it again, and it worked, so its not doing it to the same thing everytime. Message was edited by: metallic5spd

I already e-mailed you about this, but for the benefit of Autodesk...

I did update the video drivers - it was running the default Microsoft drivers for the card previously. Now it has the current release of ATI Catalyst installed, and I updated the graphics card XML files for Inventor as well. It is in Direct3D mode, and is back at "recommended" acceleration instead of software rendering (the top radio button after the OGL/D3D section on the Hardware tab of the settings window).
