Using model sketches info in drawings...

Are we able to view-dimension between model surfaces and sketch info? I'm hoping to use some sketch information from parts in my assembly to illustrate something in the drawing.

Here's the situation: All of my assemblies derive from the plan-view sketch of a column-line grid. In the drawing, I would like to locate the model's position from the column-lines, only the lines are buried inside a derived sketch. I can work backwards and create a view-sketch from projected assembly geometry, but I'd like to know if it's possible to use the derived sketch.

I've tried showing-contents and see the 'Get Work Features, Get Model Sketches'.. ..and activate them only to see them appear in the browser and not the view. Is there some other activation required to employ the sketch into the view?

Or is the dilemma that the sketches are from a derived part (just a sketch, really) that makes this difficult? Also...a side question, when I derive a sketch into a part, any sketch-text only derives into a rectangle or circle, as if indicating the text's location. Do we know why this is?

Thanks in advance for any help.
James

If I remember right a sketch must be consumed by a feature before it will show in a IDW
view.

Kent,

I believe that there first has to be an extrusion (volume) of some sort in
the IPT before any consumed OR non-consumed sketches can be made visible in
an IDW.

Sick... only non-consumed sketches can be made visible.

So for those who need to document Skeletal models, we have to put lots
of teeny tiny extrusions on each sketch so we can access them for
documentation.

It sure would be nice if this could get fixed.

Quinn

I was going from memory that I got on a $19.95 clearance rack a few years
back. 8^0 I haven't played with that almost since R6 came out so I am not
to surprised I was wrong, but if what you say is true, I wonder if maybe a
sketch has to be shared if it has been consumed? I got to many programs
open right now to go check.

'Document Skeletal models' ... that's how I should have phrased my post. And you're right that it would be really (really) nice to get this fixed. Thanks to all for replying.
