user work planes visibility issues in drawing

hello all,

im having an issue with our user work planes not showing in the drawing environment. ill try to explane how we do things.

first we have a part file with nothing except user work planes, axis & points (see "HULL ML" below).

we place the "HULL ML" into every assembly and then constrain our parts to it. (see "Deck Section 2")

normally while in a drawing i can find the "HULL ML" in the browser and include user work planes to get that plane to show up in any given drawing view..

for some reason now though i can not find "HULL ML" in a section view. i have always been able to do this and nothing has changed since the last project. i CAN still find and turn it on in a normal view or projected view, just not sections.

now to confuse me even more. this drawing was fine a few days ago. every plane i needed in every drawing view was showing fine. but now every section view i have is missing the "HULL ML" from the browser. thanks.

oh, we are using inventor 2014 SP2 Update 1.

Kevin,

Welcome to the forums.

Typically, parts that are not "seen" in the section will not be included in the section view in the browser. If you were ever able to get it to in the past, and the only thing I could suggest as a possible way to make that happen ever, would be to change the section participation. There's a chance that your applications settings may have been altered or the setting may have been switched some other way. Basically there are two ways to do this:

1. Edit the desired view and in the Display Options tab of the dialog box, select Always, Never, or Obey Browser Setting under the "Section Standard Parts" Option.

2. IF Obey Browser Setting is selected, select any parts in the browser itself (in the view the section is pull from I believe), right click and change their section participation to Section, Slice or None.

I think what you'd be looking for is Obey Broswer Settings and None (in that order).

Hope this helps.

still no luck. it baffles me because it works fine in the project that this one was copied from.

Doing some testing and I can't repeat your issue with the section views. If the file with the workplanes is included in the assembly. It should be visiable in the browser.

Have you expand the section in the idw browser and look for the file there with your workplanes in it. During some of my testing I found I have to get to the file with the work features and turn them on there to have them visiable in the drawing.

Make sure you file is in the assembly (which it looked like it did) and that the work feature were on in that file also.
