Updating thumbnail images on BOM list

The thumbnails that appear on the BOM list do no update when changing the part. The IDW file is open and the part is opened from inside the IDW environment to change view, visual style etc. then saved and closed.

When returning to the IDW and re-creating the BOM list the thumbnail the image does not update.

Why does the BOM list not automatically update the thumbnail images on the IDW ? Thanks

Hi , thanks for your reply, in asnwer to your questions please see below,

how do you get thumbnail on partslist in idw?

The thumbnails are not on the parts list they are generated by the parts list on the BOM

what is your thumbnail save setting?

I am not sure what you mean here by thumbnail save setting, can you please confirm ?

which version of your inventor?

I am using Inventor 2013 64-bit edition

show us some screen shots?

I have attached a screen shot of the thumbnail colum on my BOM list

if it is not partslist in idw, there will be nothing about idw file. I dont see anything related to idw at this point.

please check attachment. that is preview save setting.

The BOM in iam file supposed to update automatically. it works fine for me.

good luck

Hi, I am not sure I quite understand your first point :

"if it is not parts list in did, there will be nothing about did file. I don't see anything related to idw at this point."

My BOM list is created from right click on the parts lists under the browser tree, is this what you are referring to ? Please see attached screen dump

I have checked the ipart properties as you have shown in your attachment and this is correct however my BOM list thumbnails do not update still.

Hope this makes sense Smiley Wink

The BOM is supposed to be created in assembly file. open assembly file, then open BOM. It should be fine. The part list is created from BOM. The parts list doesnt create anything.

Hi, thanks for your comments. The reason I have created the BOM list in the IDW instead of the assembly file is that I am using a 3rd party BOM list creator add-in which exports thumbnail images however if I do this in the assembly I just get excel list with no part images. Hope this makes sense.

did you change visual style only? it wont change the preview.

try to modify sketches or iproperties too,  when you change visual style. close and save file. you can see updated preview.

ps. it doesnt matter the add-in you are using. the BOM is created from assembly only. parts list is based on BOM.
