Update Parts List

Apparently out of date Parts List in the IDW can now be updated (instead of deleted and reinserted) and indicate this by turning red, why don't they just update or at least why don't we have the option to have them update automatically. (If they do and I've mist it just ignore me)

There was a discussion on this a few weeks
ago.  While many wanted them to update automatically the point was brought
up about data you had typed in manually.  You can RMB on this data and
choose Freeze to preserve it but if you had not chosen to freeze the data it
would be lost.  I guess it was the lesser of two evils.  If ADSK did
it automatically then people would complain about that.  This way it's up
tot he user.  I think a few people suggested making this a toggle switch
between auto and manual.

I think it is very functional the way it is. Just rmb on the red plist icon
and pick update.

When you say you couldn't update in 5.3? Clicking compare and update all
wouldn't work?

I don't understand why you had to reinsert the parts list just do a compare.

Sean

I don't remember anyone complaining in MDT that their Bom data updated on a parametric cad
program. Isn't that what Parametric is for? This one just makes no sense to me and is
nothing but bad drawings waiting to happen. If people are having to override the data so
much then the reasons for that need to be looked at closer.

Kent,

Maybe they override it because having to right
click|properties|Project(tab)|Enter "Desciption" on every stinkin' part gets
mind numbing? 😉

It looks like you can still see the part "Description" information in IV6
design assisant, in a nice tabular format...
BUT YOU CAN'T ENTER IT THERE.

Darn!

Kent in a perfect world I would 100% agree with you. But you know as well
as I do that sometimes workaround are required to get the job out of the
engineers hands and into the manufacturing/assembly world. All I'm saying
is if they were to go fully automatic that would be a shame. I'd prefer a
switch to turn it on or off (kind of like defer updates)
