Unfolding/flat patern error

I was working on this part yesterday, and everything was going swimmingly. It's a tad complex, but nothing too out of hand. I've used unfold/refold several times without any issues. Until I shut down for the night. Next day, inventor hangs up if trying to use unfold or flat pattern. Could someone try it out and see if their computer can unfold this part? Thanks

Hi kmagal,

You either forgot to attach the file, or your internet browser and this forum are not playing well together. If it;s the latter, you might try another browser and see if it lets you attach the file.  You might also mention the version of Inventor you're using so that someone doesn't create a solution in a version you can't open.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

It appears to be the browser. Going to give it a try with chrome. I'm using inventor '15 pro sp1.

Hi kmagal,

This thread seems to indicate that Inventor 2015 had a bug concerning flat patterns, so it might be a good idea to start with installing the avaliable updates:

Just FYI to anyone else who downloads the file MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR WORK before trying to flatten this file... I tried and it has my machine spun up pretty good right now... so I'm probably going to bail out and kill the process.

Curtis,

Could you point me in the direction of the required update? I don't see any on the link you posted, and it does not seem to describe the same problem.

This seems to have something to do with the corner rounds, as without them the part unfolds right away. Could you unfold it on your computer?

Hi kmagal,

I think SP2 is all you need :

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-i...

but just type Autodesk Application Manager into your Start menu, and then you can use it to tell you what's what.

I hope this helps.

It would not flatten in 2016 either.  I deleted your Corner Round 2 & Corner Round 3, used the Unfold tool to flatten all of the bends using the center flat as the stationary reference, replaced the Corner Rounds while the part was flat and used the Refold tool to return the part to the original shape.  2016 will now unfold it fine.  I hope this process will work for 2015.
