Unable to see hidden lines from other parts in Inventor 2014

I don't know if it is a bug or a setting, but in Inventor 2014, when I work on a part inside an assembly, with hidden lines visible, I am not able to see hidden lines from other parts.

Can anyone help, is this a bug in Inventor 2014, or can this be changed in settings?

I really need that x-ray overview when projecting edges from hidden parts.

Thanks!

Brgds,

Chris

Hi,

I don't think there's an option to enabling what you are looking for, but

Ribbon [Tools] > "Options" panel > "Application Options" button

> [Display] tab > Inactive Component Appearance > Display edges

will give you somewhat close (hidden line will be shown in continous line,

not in dashed line though).

Hope this helps,

Sometimes you just need a good old reboot.

Thanks, I was also quite sure they were visible in the previous versions.

This is really a big issue for me, due to my workflow.

Please fix this Autodesk!

Chris

Hi Sami,

It looks like there is a problem with the hidden lines missing in Inventor 2014, ref. RayFeiler

Is it an issue you will look into?

Thanks!

Brgds,

Chris

HI,

I need to understand why we are seeing different behavior first.

Please look at the attached screen capture from Inventor 2012 SP2.

I don't see hidden lines from inactive components while I'm doing in-place-edit.

(same as what 2014 update-1 does)

Would you mind sharing what is your workflow/dataset look like?

Thanks in advance,

Hi Sami,

Thanks for your reply.

Try to have a look at your own screenshot, I made a note on it.

Actually the hidden lines are visible. Try to do the same in Inventor 2014

My workflow is this:

1. I have a "part1" where the size and shape are known

2. Then I have a smaller "part2", where I know its shape and location inside "part1"

3. Now I need to make a cutout in "part1" for "part2", using its projected edges... Which are not visible in Inventor 2014.

Brgds,

Chris

Hi,
Thank you for your clarification.
It turned out that this has been known as DID 1497386 in our product database.
The development team has been working on this to find out a solution.
Best,

Hi Sami,

Thanks for your answer.

Can you tell if this issue will be adressed in a hotfix/service pack?

Just because it is really anoying to work with.

Brgds,

Chris

Hi again,

What is the status of this issue?

Is it something Autodesk is planning to fix, or is it just a downgrade we have to live with.

Brgds,

Chris

Hi,

The code change has been made for this and the issue is not reproducible anymore in our internal test builds.

I believe the fix will be a part of coming update but we cannot commit anything here.

Hope this helps,

Thank you,
