Unable to Rip Sheet Metal Pipe

Hi,

I have been trying to do a rip on a pipe whose ends are notched against other pipes. The rip function does not work when both ends are notched, but it does work when only when end of the pipe is notched. I have attached the file containing the pipe I am trying to rip.

Any ideas to why I cannot rip the pipe?

The part is not modeled correctly for a sheet metal part (I understand why you want to flatten).

What version of Inventor did you say you are using?

You are likely to get solutions that you cannot open.

Delete faces the ends and outside faces and then Thicken the inside face towards the outside.

Hi,

I am using Inventor Professional 2012. Could you please further explain your answer?

Thanks!

Also your Sheet Metal Style Thickness Parameter does not match the pipe wall thickness.

Delete Face the ends and outside face - leaving only the inside surface.

Thicken the remaining inside face by the parameter Thickness (set this to correct thickness in Sheet Metal Styles).

Add the Rip feature.
