unable to rename parts using the design assistant

I'm trying to rename parts using the design assistant/manage/rename tool...
but it's grey-out or disabled

Why?

Thanks!

The top level assembly cannot be renamed.
Not a single part which is opened in DA either.

You will have to do this manyally in the Explorer.

I think it is because DA cannot "take responsibility" of what models might
reference the top level component.

The part is a leaf node from an sub assembly in a top assembly.

Why is the rename option grey-out?

So You open the Assy in DA, and rename part is grayed out?

In this case, could the part be placed in a library path, or is the project
semi-isolated?

I feel like I should know this but what do you mean by "DA"?

I found it by myself... as usual...

but for your info... Part status/design state must not be to released....

So I changed the part status to work in progress and the rename is now
available in the DA.

SIMPLE , REMOVE MODEL STATES THEN TRY

Model States didn't exist twenty years ago... !

Even now that is not the answer unless you are using an outdated version of Inventor; and if that's the case, the better answer is to update Inventor.

As you can see from the last message before yours, the answer for the original poster (an archived user, by the way) was the Vault status of the files in question.
