Tube Generator Template

Hey guys,

Check CF under the same topic. I created this template part as we deal with
a lot of structural steel tube. Place this part in your template directory
then begin a new part from it. It will prompt you for a width, height, wall
thickness, length and material.

I was going to make the widths and thickness change depending on the
selected height etc.. but that got to be a lot of code. For now the only
thing it will do is stop you from making an impossible part (1.5 x .75 x .5
wall) but it's up to you to make sure someone actually makes the tube you
are creating.

You can add materials to this template if you'd like as well.

Let me know if you can break it. Seemed to be pretty stable to me. Figured
I'd share it with the group.

File is not zipped, I know is causes some problems though it worked ok for
me.
Looks neat Sean where's the metric file? 🙂 and how do you do that like
prompted entries?

You are right but typically it's the larger unzipped files that give OE
trouble however if anyone has problems with it let me know and I'll repost
it zipped.

Metric? They make metric tubing? Send me over some tables of sizes and
I'll make one up.

It's an AutoNew() VBA function. When the user starts a new file from this
template, you create the form, get user input and then pass these values to
the model.

Its not just OE. Virtually everything on the internet recognizes ZIP
and lets them transfer regardless of what is inside them. There are
lots of servers and applications which don't know what an Inventor file
is so inappropriate decisions are made by software in how to deal with
them. Even if the file grows a little bit, it is often better to zip
them up just for transport compatibility.

Thanks Sean. Really nice the way you have designed the prompted dialogue
box. Good work.
