Trouble with inserting STEP file

I inserted a STEP file into an existing assembly and it came in as a translucent yellow assembly. I tried to change the color to a solid color and cannot figure out how to do that. I think the step file is a surface model. Is there a way to change the color? (see attached)

I could not find a STEP file (or any part file for that matter) in your attached assembly. An assembly without parts is not very valuable.

Same results - no parts. Of course you realize that an iam file is simply links to ipt files and contains little else? Without ipt files an iam is... .... well I don't know what it is. They must not cover this until Level 2 training?
Why not zip and attach the original STEP file?

Open with these Options will give you solids instead of surfaces.

Thanks. Are the blue buttons the "seleted" ones or the white buttons?

I did get the cartridge valve to come in as a solid but the block that the valve screws into is listed in the browser but is not visible in the graphics screen and it's visibility is turned on. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks.

When I edit the body, it is visible but when I finish the edit, it disappears.

Thanks.

Here is the attached file that includes iam and 2 part files.

That looks like a different assembly than the first post?
Open the 150600006C.ipt file.
Expand the Construction folder at the top of the browser.
Right click on the Solid and Copy to the Modeling Environment.
You can now delete the Construction folder.

Thanks JD.

I had imported a different valve assembly that was a step file and it came in scaled as though mm got converted to inches. i.e. it is 25.4 times too small. Is there a way to scal the assmbly as a whole?

I think if you open the *.stp in Notepad there is a line of code to change units - but I'm not sure as it seems easier to me to simply start a new ipt file, exit sketch mode and Derive Component with Scale the translated ipt.

Thanks. How would I apply your described method if the STEP file is an assembly and not a part. See attached.

I'm not sure of the question.
Do you want to scale each part but keep as a separate part or do you want to combine all of the parts into one part? Actually either way you do it through Derived Component.

Or is the question about getting this as solids (I had no trouble importing as solids).

I had no trouble with getting the solids. I opened a new part file and selected derive component and scaled up 25.4 and the result is a part file that is no longer an assembly file with all the parts as separate entities. Is there a way to scale up as an assembly file and not a part file?

Thanks.

It sounds like you want to derive each individual part.

OK. If I do that, will all the assembly constraints still be intact when I open the assembly after all the parts have been derived?

Thanks.

There aren't any assembly constraints to begin with (unless you added them).
Another method might be to open the STEP in MDT and scale there and then bring over into Inventor.
