Trouble with Autodesk Student Community Download Tool (Inventor 2009)

While trying to download Inventor 2009 via the Student Community Download Tool, the download stops at random and does not continue past that point. I have tried several times and every time it has stopped at a different point (this time it stopped at 40%). In reading other forums, I found that my firewall/anti-virus program could be to blame, so I disabled them and tried the download again, but it still didn't work. Any help would be appreciated!

I have never had any success using the community download tool. I always download the idividual zip files - but recombining these files requires a bit of file savvy. Your best bet is probably to find another student in your class who has been successful with the download and have them copy the install files to a removable hard drive. The use your personal serial number when doing the install.

Well, there are problems with those methods as well:

No one else in my class has figured out that we can download software from Autodesk, therefore I can't use the files from someone else and enter my serial.

When I try to download the individual .zip files, it doesn't work, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. I go to the 'Software Downloads' page and click the software I want to download. When I get to the page where you can download the Student Community Download Tool, I scroll down to where it says 'Manual Download'. Under that subtitle there are two links, one says 'Part 1 (701MB)' and the other says 'Part 2 (455MB)'. However, when I click either of these links it simply takes me back to the Software Downloads page. I tried right-clicking and using 'Save Target As', but it just downloads an HTML copy of the Software Downloads page.

Any further suggestions?

Are you trying to download 64-bit or 32-bit version? Recently they removed the previous download and replaced the files. Have you tried recently? I just tried and get different file size than what you are reporting. I didn't actually complete the download though.

I need the 32-bit version. I have been trying to download Inventor all weekend. With all the problems I have run into with the download tool, I have been trying to use the manual download, but clicking on either of the links does nothing but refresh the screen. I attached a screenshot of the links I see when I go to the manual download section of the page.

For some reason it doesn't look like it is sending to correct page. First thing I would do is clean your internet history. If that doesn't work ask your teacher to try under faculty registration and see if the correct page is linked.

I guess I could try asking my teacher...I doubt he will know what I'm talking about, but I'll try. What about posting a question in the student forums? On the download page it says that if you have a problem to ask a question in the forums, so I follow the link and it takes me to a page where there are tons of questions from other users listed, but no apparent way for me to post a question. Do you know how this works?

I have used the download tool a few times and it worked each time. The nice thing about the download tool is the ability to stop and resume, and I also believe that it does a quality check on the file to make sure the installer will run without errors.

Are you trying to download this at school or at home? The problem that I had while downloading is that my ISP would start to throttle my connection speed after I downloaded the first Gig. I then had to quit and give it a few hours before continuing my download. So the download may not be stopping at 40%, your ISP may just be throttling you at theat point.

Well, last night I could start the download (I didn't bother to finish) but today I get an error. See attached for link to Ask a Question, but all I can say is good luck getting an answer (that works).

There have been issues with broken downloads on the Student
site for over a month. I have someone from Autodesk working on it.

I would say more like 3 years - not just a month.

Try using Internet Download Manger Software available in net. It can resume downloads after Powercuts also many provisions for sucucessful downloads available.
