Hi ti all... help!

I'm working on hydraulic manifold design. Imagine the model as a cube with some holes and cavities starting from faces. Basic holes are made with standard features and cavities (tipically centered on basic holes) are iFeatures.

To simplify complex manifold design the ideal solution will be working on a fully transparent cube (with visibile edges) and then apply features with different colors. Every intersecting hole will be of the same color.

I'm new to Inventor and this kind of models was prevoiusly made with SolidWorks. Is it possible to do something like this in Inventor?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

set your material as lexan clear.
then select each face of the holes/cavities and change their color.

Something like what is shown below?

Part2 is set to "glass" as its color. I always work
with edges displayed (you can set that on your Application Options|Display
tab)

I then set Extrusion2's properties feature style
color to red and extrusions 3 and 4 to blue and green respectively.

Hope that helps.

I think they have changed from a product name to generic polycarbonate name.
Problem with that method is the added features are also transparent rather than opaque.

Dear JD, thanks for your replies.
Copied CLEAR&.BMP to Textures\surfaces but Inventor doesn't display it in the dropdown list. Do you see it as CLEAR?
Jorma.

I think it will only work with the file I posted.
You might need to go to
Format>Style Editor
Click on Colors
Select Glass (as a start, but I think you could use any color)
Click New
Give it new name Clear
Choose CLEAR& texture
Save

Then RMB on the feature in the browser and change Properties color rather than changing the part color.

If you have trouble figuring it out holler back and I'll post step-by-step images.

I tried to open the "clear.ipt" and got a warning that it was made with the educational version of Inventor. Can these files be opened on a production machine? Or is the watermark problem only upon saving?

As long as you do not use the content in one of your iam or idw you will be fine. Examine the technique and then delete the file.

If you don't feel comfortable I think I have pretty much described through words and pictures what the results were.
