Thomas Register Parts

I here a lot about people looking for IV parts.
Just wondering if any one out there has used, or found useful for IV, Thomas Register Part Spec?
I received version 6.5 edition and had not had a chance to use it yet.

It's as good as the individual manufacturers
have decided to make it.  The ones who do offer 3D blocks can
be pretty handy.  I've used the Swagelock entries a lot; they've saved
me a bunch of time and headaches.  The search engine is a lot like Google;
you can get exactly what you want, it you enter just the right search
words.

Definitely worth a look.

I'll check it out. I'm just a little apprehensive, I would'nt want to place a part in a design and find out later
that it was not accurate, although I have used some of the McMaster Carr 3-d downloads.
I was just curious, because I never heard any mention of anyone using these parts.
Thanks

No, your're thinking of Inventor's part library

Did R7 fix that little debacle, does anyone know?

I think that question belongs in the R7 NG.

Ok moderators, move this puppy to the right NG. 😉

Does PartSpec contain 3D content? The older versions didn't but I have
kind of lost track.

I have 6.5. Haven't used it much.(I find most of my parts on
www.cbliss.com), I have used tyhe swagelok stuff - works good. I select
Pro e, and it comes in as a solid.

Pretty much but I did hear there are still a few mistakes..(mainly missing
standard lengths for a given screw size)

Yes, part spec does have many 3D. There is a tab to select only 3D, and all others grey out. I haven't tried it with Inventor yet, but with MDT to get a solid I would have to explode once to get rid of block, then again to get to surfaces, and then use the am2sf command to convert the surfaces to MDT surfaces and then amstitch to convert to MDT solids that I can edit if desired and to get rid of the Thomas Register diamond.

I tried the early versions of part spec and hated it, however the new version is really nice. The limiting factor is if a vendor has 3D models, and how acurate they are. I found they tend to dummy the models, whether to save resources or keep from competitors having the exact part file I am not sure.

The new version (6.5) has a real nice insert mode that I have used a lot. While you have inventor open just find the part you want and insert it in the drawing. You do not have to do anything else, it is now in inventor and ready to use.

Now if more vendors would create 3D blocks we could spend more time doing fun stuff and not creating drawings for them.
