Texture Appearance Direction Mismatch?

Can anyone tell me how to get my grating going the same direction on the side as it does on top (see attached)?  (The old way of doing materials did this automatically)

That is helpful, though I guess I was looking for a solution that would alter the appearance in such a way that I didn't have to manually manipulate every edge each time I create a section of grating. I would prefer altering the style rather than manually manipulating it each time.
