I created a sketch on a face and sketched text onto it. For some reason I cannot Cut the text into the surface and then Thicken it to create inset text at the surface of the object. How can I do this? The part is attached.
Why did you Extrude and then Combine-Cut rather than simply Extrude-Cut (Extrusion12)?
Can't you simply Extrude-Cut the text?

Hello JD,
I tried everything. The one I uploaded was just the latest attempt. The part converts to stl fine for dual extrusion when I extrude / cut the letters, then extrude to fill the letters w/ a solid so I can print the board in one color and the letters in another. The problem occurs when I assemble all three parts together and export to stl. My slicer says there are errors in the meshes and my slicer is very robust in this regard...the letters will not extrude properly.
It's easy to create the cuts / emboss the letters with a workable stl in one of the boards, but filling them with a solid to print them as an insert does not seem to be working with the bottom, back and side board all together as an assembly or as a part.
The latest iteration of the three part files which print ok as an stl are attached to this reply. The assembly whose letters do not print well as an stl will be attached to my next reply due to the three attachment limit / post.
...attached is the assembly whose letters don't print well. Also, my first post in this thread shows I tried to stay within the part creation window, nixing the assembly due to the problems I was having, but still I cannot create a satisfactory stl when I combine all three parts together as a part or as an assembly with solid letters inset into the board.
yes, I tried that, but then extrude / filling the emboss doesn't create a workable stl that a slicer can understand when I have a top, back and side wall all with text in them.
Allow me to clean up the mess I made of this thread due to doing 500 things at once the last few days...here's the bottom line:
I can extrude / cut or emboss letters into a Part, then fill the cut by extruding a new solid using a shared sketch, but using this process when I add the Part to an Assembly, the letters in the Assembly always export incorrectly as an stl. The reason I'm doing this is I want to print the letters in the Assembly as a different color than the rest of the part. I attached the Assembly and the three Parts used to make the Assembly.
Due to the 3 attachment limit, in the next post I will attach a couple of snapshots showing the word "Height", which was created using the above process to create an Assembly, and it's highlighted by my slicer showing it has mesh errors. I will also attach a snapshot showing my slicer says I have sub-meshes inside out and this is due to the word "Height" not being created as an stl correctly by Inventor. The words "Length" and "Width" are shown by my slicer as acceptable, but they are simple extrusions out of the surface of the part; hence not part of the problematic process mentioned above.
Hopefully someone can help me figure out I'm doing something wrong or if Inventor is incorrectly creating my stl.
...and attached are the snapshots I mention in my previous post that show the mesh errors imported into my slice that were created by Inventor.
