Task Scheduler

Does anyone know how to use Task Schedule to create a routine to update a visualization files nightly? When I try to get to vault through task scheduler I get an error that says "Vault Projects Not Supported" Any clue on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Scott

Are you just trying to publish a bunch of DWF's - or update the visualisation files that you see on the preview tab in Vault?

If it's the latter option, then Task Scheduler is probably not the way to do it.  You should look at the Job Processor.

If it's the DWF publishing option, then make a duplicate of your project file, set it to be "single user" type, then proceed as normal in Task Scheduler to publish your DWF's

I'm sure someone posted here a while ago explaining why certain Task Scheduler functions don't work with Vault projects, but I can't find the post sorry.

The first question that comes to mind is which task are you trying to create? Also once the task is selected are you using the correct project file, it should be in the upper left corner.

Thanks for the response, I am trying to do the latter option. I could not figure out how to do this with job processor. Do you happen to know how to create a routine or at least manually do this with job processor? Thanks.

If you are trying to update the thumbnails used for the previews in Inventor then an Update Design task in Task Scheduler should do it as the thumbnails are updated when the file is saved. This task should be able to be accomplish even with the files in Vault. There is an option tab in the Task Scheduler when using a project file. You will want to check the project file used in the Task Scheduler.

If I misinterpreted what you are trying to accomplish please let us know and update us with a description your intent.

Let me try to explain again, I am sure I am not being clear. What I want to do is be able to update the dwf files that are used in the Web Client of Vault. Ideally, I would be able to schedule a task or routine on our Vault Server to go through the entire Vault and update all the dwf visualization files overnight. Does this help to clear it up? Again, thanks for the help.

Thanks for the clarification it narrow it down.

What you can do is create a task in Task Scheduler. You will need to use a Migration task as a Design update isn’t supported with Vault. Don’t worry both do mostly the same thing in the end.

When you create the task you will want to use your project file for vault and set up either folders or a project. I would suggest that you test this out with a small folder so you feel comfortable with the process. The key point will be to access the options in the task. In the option you have the standard migration task (I like to add Total Rebuild and Compact Model History as this will leave you with a better file) and a tab for Vault (see image below) and select the Create Visualization Attachment. This will regenerate the dwf files (which you are looking for). Then you can return the main menu and either start the process right away (Immediately option) or set a time to run. This should accomplish what you want and update/replace all the dwf’s for the files migrated.

When it finish you may want to review the log file and see if there were any issue. Some of the warning or issue reported at the end of the log can be useful.

If you installed vault first and then Inventor your addins for vault may not be installed for Inventor.

I went to control panel right clicked on my version of vault and installed the missing inventor addins.
