Tapped Hole Error

I cannot use tapped hole option in my hole feature menu.
And I cannot edit any previously created tapped hole features. I have: XP Pro 64 bit
Inventor 2008
Office 2000

This problem occurs with only one user, 11 other workstations do not have this error.

Can you create a thread in a hole? If not you may be missing the excel file that defines the threads

The excel file is there, located in the proper place. We just upgraded to 2008, the error occurred before the upgrade as well.

Do you have a common style library? Did that user lose rights or mapping to the style library folder?
Message 5 of 22

in reply to: alcuratolo

No, we use a single project and it is mapped to the server location where our style libraries are located.

Is the user able to browse to the server location and open threads.xls in Excel?

Yes the user can open the file.

The cosmetic thread function also does not work. Errors come up and we have to end the program.

I also have one user with a problem that sounds similar.

This user can initiate the Hole Feature but can not select the Threaded Hole option. The dialog flashes on the screen and returns to the standard hole feature dialog.

Update:
This is for Inventor 2008 on Windows XP 32 bit machines

We have Office 2007 if that is of any importance. Edited by: ToddW.Schuler@Energizer.com on Jul 20, 2009 2:39 PM

Hi,

Im using AI 2010 with the Ribbon UI. I can't access the TAPPED hole optinos. Whenever I click on a hole type different from Simple Hole, the tapped hole menu screen flashes and tries to display itself but closes immediately returning to the Simple Hole option.

Is this related to the Ribbon UI? I tried doing the same in the Classic UI and works fine, but would like to use the Ribbon one.

Thanks,

Omar.

Do you have Excel installed and run once before launching Inventor?
What operating system? What version Excel?

I have MS Office 2007 and use Excel a lot during normal Inventor sessions but have never paid attention weather I run Excel prior launching Inventor.

I have Windows XP Professional with SP3 installed in a HP notebook (6530b). Graphics card is integrated to the mother board and is an Intel Chipset 4 series. I have struggled to find a workable hardware configuration for the Ribbon UI to display properly. Here's the Inventor diagnostics:

This graphics driver is fully certified.
Graphics Hardware Description: OpenGL \ Microsoft Corporation \ GDI Generic
Graphics driver file igxprd32.dll is version 6.14.10.4953
Using the GDI-Generic driver
The display is using 32-bit color

Inventor Vault
Autodesk DWF Markup Manager

Hi Dennis,

I tried launching Inventor PRIOR launching Excel and the problem seems to be fixed. I just wonder if the problem will come back if Excel is opened once Inventor is running.

Thanks,

Omar

I am having the same problem, I click in the tapped hole radio button and it flashes and turns back to simple hole. I have tried starting excel before starting inventor and after inventor and still nothing happens.

Just recently had the same problem. After investigating, I realized my Project Folder was still linked to older version of Inventor. Under Folder Options/Design Data. Hope this helps.

I face the same problem with Inventor 2010 since about one week on three of our computers when I try to insert ContentCenter parts which have a thread; but also, when I try to make a tread e.g. in a whole it will not work anymore. I think there must be something in the Windows operating system environment (Windows XP SP3, MS Office 2003, .NET Framework or Visual C++), but I really don´t know what!???

In what codification you have inserted your WORD document. Here in Germany I cannot open it. Can you please post your instructions as a PDF file!!!

regards

Helmut

Did it solve your problem? I just face the same problems with thread functionality in Inventor 2010 (with Windows XP 32-Bit SP3, MS Office 2003). When I switch to "old" UI it didn´t help!!!

Helmut

Dear Helmut,

No I haven't been able to solve this problem. I think it has something to do with my graphics card not being fully compatible with Inventor. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't which is even more annoying.

What I did is I switched back to the old user interface (keine Ribbon) and there everything works fine. I don't understand why Inventor works perfectly well with the old interface but doesn't with the Ribbon one. Also, my AutoCAD seems to work just fine with the Ribbon interface, so why Inventor doesen't??

Anyway, switch back to the old interface and hope Autodesk provides some help soon.

Regards,

Omar

Hi Dennis
I was looking a your post on autodest dicussion group... I've run into the problem were i can't use taps or threads. It flashes and goes back to hole like the others in the blog. I'm thinking that it's with the excel file. The file is there. threads.xls I've recently downlowed the iLogic parameters add on. I've worked some of the tutorials were there was an embeded excel file (3rd. party file) with tap parameters. Could this have caused the problem? Would you mind getting back with me, and let me know if you have a solution to the fix.
