Sweeping...

Hello there,

I´d like to use a sketch and the extrude command

to breach a sweeping I did, but it is not working at

all.

I´ve attached a picture. Is it my model, Inventor or

just impossible?

Any help is appreciated.

Of course simple geometry like this is possible.
Exactly what isn't working?  Can you attach the file here?

Find the red End of Part marker in the browser.
(End of Folded on sheet metal parts EOF)
Drag the red EOP to the top of the browser hiding all features.

Save the file with the EOP in a rolled up state.

Right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

I suspect a Sweep - Cut would be a better option.

Hello JD,

I´ve attached the file. The problem is that Inventor states

the operation did not change the number of faces. Proba-

bly because of the multi body object. I might have doe it

wrong.

Kind regards

Daniel

It works with just a single sweep and a plane.

Therefore it must be the multi body object.

Kind regards

I managed to!

I am just not allowed to use adhering geometry as

a sketch basis, I need to stick to a workplane not

connected to anygeometry at all 🙂

Thanks!!

I don't know what this means?
Can you attach your solution here?  (also leave in the sketch you were trying to use)

When you are cutting from a multi-body solid - you have to pick the solid you want to cut as there are several and Inventor can't pick it for you.

Hello JD,

what I tried to say was the following:

When initially trying to extrude the sweeping away (substraction boolean) I used

geometry which had the same orientation as a base for the sketch. When I thought

about it I came to the very same conclusion you did, how would Inventor be able to

tell the geometry apart?

Therefore I created the workplane based upon the original plane any Inventor file

comes with. No association with any geometry. In the next step I did a sketch on

this workplane to define the extrusion. I projected a part of the geometry it ought

to affect and therefore associated it to the extrude command.

This worked quite fine.

Kind regards

Daniel

P.S.: I had the old files deleted as soon as I got to know how it works
