Sweep problem

Hi to All

Why cannot I sweep 2d objects aloung a path if they are nor circles???
I have a 3D projected geometry for the path and I have a 4 sided 2D shape to be swept and it just does not want to do the right thing!!!
WHY???

Is it only because it does not have a center point???

Thanks

Joe

What's "the right thing"? 8~)

The most common cause of a kernel failure is if the profile is self
intersecting. To best picture this imagine (if it's not there to see) the rad
ctr for that particular spot in the path. If that point is inside the profile
as it transverses that particular spot on the path the operation will fail.
(Or, something like that.) This is sometimes not true for line segment paths,
but that gets complicated.

By their nature (or the nature of the sweep algorithms), 3d paths will cause
the profile to "twist" as if follows the path. Again, picturing the points
the path is curved (for various instantaneous points on the curve) about (or
augmented lines, if you are familiar with them) will make this easier to
understand.

If you have something you can post to CF, maybe someone can offer something
specific or an alternate method.

Post it to CF so that others can take a look at it.

Sorry, can't offer anything specific from the example, as the sweep solves and
does pretty much what I'd expect (though, each 3d sweep is a little bit of a
surprise; sometimes what I want, sometimes not). If you can offer a specific
problem and desired results possibly....

BTW, you are using 6, aren't you (file you posted was 5)? Would hate to spend
the time on a solution that you can't see and there's a big difference in
capabilities.

Good luck with it,
Jeff
