Surfaces in IDW's

Is it possible to show surfaces in IDW's (in an end view)? I'm trying to
show a wire path on EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam.
Thanks in advance... Tim W

Sadly, no. You need to thicken the surface, even if it's just .0001. It needs to
have volume to show in idw.

Do the following:

Use "Show Contents" to show all the part/features of your assembly. Browse
to your part with the surface. RMB on the part and select "Show Work
Features". Then select your surface and turn the visibility on.

Best regards,

T.

Sorry, but I spoke to soon. It's not possible with surfaces, only with
WorkPlanes/Axis.

Hamster?

Please do not change the subject line of newsgroup messages to
which you are replying. It breaks the ability of the search
engine to group the messages, makes it hard to follow the thread
and is quite confusing. If it is a new subject, please start a
new message; if a reply, put your text answer in the body of your
message and leave the header the same.

That's just great... (sarcasm)
The people that will use this drawing will have it translated to another
program for their cutting wire, so if I thicken it - the path will actually
come up as two parallel paths (as close as they may be).
This is not at all acceptable.
Doing a sketch within an IDW is also not acceptable - the information is in
the part file.
That's my rant... Tim W

And the rant of many of us.

What if you were to use that surface to create a split that retained
both sides? I that will show up in the IDW.

Thanks Hal, that just about did it!!
Not perfect (it won't allow me to mirror the surfaces, stitch or the
splits - I'll have to do that in the sketch), but MUCH better than nothing.
I will admit it also took some tweaking to get it to work this time. Maybe
when I perform the mirror in the sketch it will be a bit easier.
Thanks again - Tim W.

You may find that some of the operations become order dependent to
achieve the appearance you desire, experimentation will help.
Glad it worked for you.

So maybe you can make the sketches in your part then, sketch on a section
plane and project the surface to the sketch, then in the IDW us Get model
sketches to have them show up in your IDW?
