Sum Some Parts List Items

Pardon the pun, and I apologize that I am about to put up another post about this subject but there is something I am just not getting about this process. I thank you all for your patience.

I have what turns out to be the first parts list in three years where I need to sum the lengths of a couple items together to get a total length for that material in feet. I have tried suggestions from other (much older) posts to no avail.

What do I need to do to get the two lines in the attached screenshot to sum their lengths together? I would be happy to add another column to the list for this, perhaps the "Unit Quantity" column where most everything is set to "Each" but the two lines shown are summed into a length in feet (or anything like that). How can I accomplish this?

Thanks for the help.

Not easy to provide a suggestion on this without having a sample, but I’ll try.

For avoiding to get the *Varies* in the Parts List, first of all, you need to add in the BOM, the specific Part Numbers to the Merge Exclude List in the Part Number Row Merge Settings.

Then, in the Parts List, group the components again using a common property (i.e.: Material).

Please, find more details about these two steps in the blog post at the bottom of this page.

If grouping the components in the Parts List using this or another existing property, gives undesired groupings for other components (this is difficult to say without having a sample from you), you can try the following.

Define a custom property just in the files of the items to group for this purpose.

You can also make a multiple selection of the items in the assembly and accessing to the iProperties.

iProp.png

Once you have done it, you can use this property for grouping the items in the Parts List (no need to display the column).

Finally, once you get the desired grouping, for displaying the desired values in the rows, apply the substitutions to the corresponding columns.

In case, find more detail for this last step as well in the blog post below.

I hope it helps.

Kind regards,

This is the step I was missing and the blog post was one that I was specifically looking for but I couldn't remember which blog I read it on. Thank you kindly for your help and the thoroughness of your response.
