Success Migrating Files to IV6

Just a sample of the experience I had with IV6 so far. I have gone back
over several problem I have reported on previous version. Several have been
fixed, one or two are still hanging around. Parts that where difficult or
near impossible in 5.3 and previous are now much easier to create with the
new modeling tools. But the drawing for this part with only 4 features is a
real hog on the IDW (4.3 Mb file).

I find that the door was closed a little on the graphic issues(more problems
not less). IV6 is slower in sketch mode (yellow dot keeping up with mouse
movement). This was not the case with the Beta which I still have running
with a Geforce 2 MX machine. Selection of parts in Assemblies seems to be
slightly slower, but I have not verified this yet. Slice graphics in IV6
gives less problems to my GeForce 4 - 64 Mb in my Dell 8200 notepad. IV5.3
frequently painted the whole screen with the capping concrete face until I
zoomed or panned. At top resolution (1600x1280) I am still limited to 3 to
4 windows. At 1280x1024 I have been to 15 windows without a lose of speed.

As for migrating files - I have done this with 4 assemblies. The lasertec
demoset, my own project (coffee machine from MDT5 through 4, 5, 5.3), a
model of a Small Block Chevy Engine, and another clients assembly which had
several problems in 5.3. (Could not open a IDW of the assembly in 5.3
without crashing).

All migrated with no problems except for the following . IV6 did not like
the error in the Lasertec Project file - WorkGroup and Library pointed to
the same folder. The coffee machine is fine so far, along with the Chevy
Engine. As for the client's assembly, IV6 actually open the damaged IDW and
showed what IPT's were causing some of the problems. These gave me a chance
to fix the assembly that IV5.3 would not let do, because it crashed.

As for the other features and improvements, many I like, especially the new
modeling tools. These I have been trying to beat up to see how far I could
go before ShapeManager quit. So far, much better than the Beta, which broke
easily. Although things can always be improved, I only have to think where
I was a few years ago with MDT and what I see and use daily with Inventor
and my only comment is a big "Wow" and Thanks to people at Autodesk.

Glad to see the news group are broken up. It was way too much to try and
read the crazy number of posting. It only shows that more people are using
Inventor, whether they have problems or not.

I think you are doing well on the open windows most struggle above 5,

you just get more done easier today, onwards I say, ( your not griping I
know)

I'am a new user (9 months) of Inventor.
I use cad software full time. (it's my job)
I worked with acad-9 to mdt-5 from 1988 to 2001.
I resisted going over to Inventor !!!!
Now that I have been using 5.3 and now 6, I would never go back.
Most of my problems are user errors and lack of experience with Inventor.
That will be fixed over time.
Thanks
