strange excel behaviour

Hello,

My assemblies contain several parts that are linked to an external spreadsheet to drive geometry. Until today whenever I opened the assembly it did its thing in the background and after a short wait my assembly would show up with the proper geometry. For the past couple of days I noticed something different, whenever I load the assembly file, I see excel loading up the spreadsheet on the other monitor and closing it over and over several times (one for each file I have linked i would assume). This is not desireable as I cannot work on anything else as each time excel opens it takes over as the main window.

I noticted this behaviour on another computer, but the third computer I tried, opens as previously described without excel loading. I have tried to delte the working folder/project file and starting with a fresh copy of the assembly from vault without any success.

Any ideas would be appriciated.

Is there any difference in the version of Microsoft Excel on the different computers (32 or 64 bit)? Are there any Windows Updates installed on one but not the other? What about updates and service packs for Autodesk Inventor?

Thanks,

The ONLY difference is the obvious one 32bit(x86) and 64bit(x64) as for the data files themselves there is NO DIFFERENCE at all they can be used/read on both.

The difference/problem may be occurring because one, lets say the 323 bit, system has office 2010 on it and the 64 bit system has Office 2103 on it then then in this case the file needs to be SAVE AS and then select EXCEL 97 - 2003 Workbook

Excel save as scree shot

NOTE the save as type has been changed from "workbook (*.xlsx) to Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)

All computers are new (about a month old) and setup with windows 7 64bit and running the same version of office.

I uninstalled all the windows updates for the past two weeks, no change.

Inventor update was my first thought, as I had just updated to sp2 update 2 a couple days back, but going to a computer running sp2 update 1 this same behaviour persists.

All the assembly models are linked to an .xlsx and always have been with this behaviour only showing up in the past few days.

Here is a quick screen cast showing the behaviour... I cut it short to just two excel popups, but the model uses a lot more files and this process goes on for a minute+

I seem to have the issue corrected, checked office 2013 updates and one came out recently and auto updated my installation. I rolled back 15.04631.1002 and disabled office updates and all I well again.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!
