Stitching multiple surfaces together

Hello i am working with a file that is from a 3d scanner. the file is an stl file and when i tried to convert it to a solid base i was left with 40,000 triangle shaped surfaces. i am trying to nock this down to 1 surface per side of the part. I tried to use the stitch tool however it does not seem to be working. any help will be greatly appriecated. I am including the file. Thanks again

Hi!

Im my opinion, forget to do so. Your part will have millions of surfaces, so the part will be too "heavy". Besides, the part is not totally closed, so you you will have to do a lot of surface work to close the gaps. It´s a simple part, create it from the scratch, you have the model to take the dimensions.
