STEP files: Inventor 2013 vs Inventor 2014

Does anyone know if there is a difference between STEP files generated in Inventor 2013 and Inventor 2014?

Typical workflow: Open Assembly > I > Export > CAD Format > STEP

I recently transitioned from 2013 to 2014 and have not encountered any issues with the software untill now.  I am making STEP files of assemblies and importing them into CAM software, but the Inventor 2014 STEP files (of assemblies, not single parts) are causing crashes.  Single part STEP files cannot be batch imported into our CAM software, hence the need for STEP files of assemblies.

2013 & 2014 single part STEP files work fine.

2013 assembly STEP files work fine.

2014 assembly STEP files cause a crash.

Probably,
Niles

Hi ak_staib and VirgilGhizelea, Thank you for reporting this issue. I can reproduce this issue on QuickStep2010. Since the STEP file can be opened in SWX, PRO/E and NX correctly, it would be complex to find where the problem is. However, the file have been send to develop team for further investegation. Will update to you if there is any feedbacks. For Inventor 2012, it can be opened as RayFeiler shows. Have you made any changes to your templates or path to templates in your current Project. It looks more like a template issue than a translation issue to me. You can check the template settings in "Tools -> Application Options -> File" or "Project -> Project Name -> Folder Options" Thanks, Evelyn

Yes. The templates was changed somehow to the 2014 folder. Importing with the 2012 Templates is working now.

But Still can't open it with STP Viewer or Quickstep

Thank you

Yes, we noticed the QuickStep 2010 failed to open the step file. Will update to you if there is any progress. Thanks, Evelyn

Hi,

I'm fencing the same problem (with STP Viewer). Any news / update about this subject ?

I have seen that SP1 for Inventor 2015 fixes the problem. Maybe the problem is solved for version 2014 as well ?!

Thanks in advance for your response.

Colin

Hello there

We have the same problem with assemblies exported to STEP files from Inventor 2014 (SP2). Altium Designer can't open those STEP files.

STEP files from parts can be imported.

It seems there is a new export module in 2014?!

Hi Colin and MirKo,

We are really sorry for the inconvenience that brings. This defect has been fixed in Inventor 2015 SP1. This issue hasn't been fixed in Inventor 2014 yet. But it will in the near future.

You can send your files if you need: Yiyun.yin@autodesk.com

Thanks,

Evelyn
