Standard Dimensions Drawing

Hi! I need help solving an problem or changing the way I'm used to work with autocad. Normally I have standard drawings that have dimensions represented with alphanumeric caracters, those drawings are attached to an simple txt file that have the corresponding dimension for each alphanumeric character. That way with one drawing i can make, for example, an steel square with 200*200 or a square with 400*400. Now, moving to inventor it's even better because it draws uptoscale the plate. But i still want to have an "standard" drawing showing that the square is defined by dimensions "L" "W" and "T" (length*width*thickness).. is it possible to have an IDW showing letters on the dimensions and then when i want have him showing the real dimension and scaling the part? or i should move to a different way of working around "standard" drawings? see attached an example. thanks lot for the help.

A couple of ways you could do this. The first being double clicking the dimension, the checking the "hide dimension value" checkbox, then typing what letter character you wish displayed. As to another way to do this, more dynamically, I'll have to get back to you when I have time, or someone with more familiarity with it may walk you thru it before I get to it.

I second chad38's solution, hiding the dimension value and manually typing in the parameter name.

I would add that by creating an iPart as the "standard" and insert the factory part into a drawing, then you can use a general table and the view of the factory part to quickly document the changing values of the parameters in a somewhat automated fashion. See the attached example and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
