Hi,
I'm trying to split a single solid body into 2 solid bodies. The problem is that the body I'm trying to split consists of two separate pieces. I can split a body when it is a single piece no problem, but I'm having the problem when the two pieces are not joined at all.
When I try and split it on the origin plane it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Could not build this Split"
When I try and split it on a work plane lying on one of the pieces it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Modeling failure in ASM. Redefine inputs."
Or, another variation on this erorr:
"Creating parting line failed. Split feature could not create two bodies. Change the Split Tool so that split feature can create two bodies."
Is this possible to do?

That would be two features.
One Extrusion, one Split if it worked.
Multi-body solids use two extrusions New Solid.
I see you are using 2010 - so your screen will look different than mine, but
create first extrusion of only one box.
Make sketch visible
Create second extrusion and click the New Solid icon below join, cut, intersect
or
Mirror the original box and select New Solid.
Thanks. Yes, that makes sense. For the actual part I'm working with, I need to rethink my workflow so that I use multiple extrusions using the new solids command instead of making the entire part, then trying to split it after.
I started to type up a work-around, but then deleted it.
As Mike Holmes would say, "Just do it right from the start."
